Norfenicol Injection (Florfenicol) Injectable Solution for Cattle is an antibiotic indicated for the treatment of bovine respiratory disease (BRD) and foot rot, and for the control of respiratory disease in cattle at high risk for developing BRD. Each ml of Norfenicol Injection Solution contains 300 mg florfenicol. For treatment of BRD or foot rot, the recommended dosage is 3 ml per 100 lbs. body weight, given by IM injection. A second dose should be given 48 hours later. Alternatively, Norfenicol Injection can be administered once by SQ injection of 6 ml per 100 lbs. For control of respiratory disease in cattle at high risk for BRD, administer 6 ml per 100 lbs., given SQ in the neck. Do not administer more than 10 ml per injection site. For use in beef and non-lactating dairy cattle only. Not for use in female dairy cattle 20 months of age or older, or in calves to be processed for veal. Florfenicol.

Buy Norfenicol Injection / Florfenicol Injectable Solution for Beef and Non-Lactating Dairy Cattle: The Definitive Guide to Broad-Spectrum Antimicrobial Therapeutics, Pharmacology, and Clinical Management

Managing acute bovine respiratory disease ($\text{BRD}$), foot rot, infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis ($\text{IBK}$), and severe bacterial infections in beef and non-lactating dairy cattle operations requires a high-potency, fast-acting bactericidal antimicrobial. When cattle experience intense environmental stress, transport trauma, and virulent bacterial exposure, rapid intervention is essential to halt lung consolidation, control systemic sepsis, prevent herd mortality, and restore growth performance.

Left unmanaged, virulent respiratory pathogens (such as Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, and Histophilus somni) cause severe fibrinous pleurisy, extensive lung necrosis, irreversible tissue damage, and significant economic losses.

Relying on older bacteriostatic antimicrobials frequently fails to achieve rapid bactericidal clearance in deep lung tissues, increasing the risk of chronic morbidity and treatment failure.

To provide rapid, concentration-dependent bactericidal action backed by rigorous veterinary clinical validation, practitioners rely on gold-standard florfenicol formulations. Norfenicol Injection Solution ($300\ \text{mg/mL}$) is a premier, professional-grade anti-infective powered by Florfenicol. Packaged in sterile multi-dose glass vials, Norfenicol Injection delivers targeted, broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity engineered specifically for advanced bovine respiratory and systemic disease management.

Antimicrobial Pharmacology & Kinetic Profile

Norfenicol Injection delivers a targeted biochemical mechanism engineered to inhibit essential bacterial protein synthesis and achieve rapid bactericidal concentration directly in lung tissue:

1. Mechanism of Action and Phenicol Structure

Florfenicol is a synthetic, broad-spectrum fluorinated derivative of chloramphenicol. It acts by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis at the ribosomal level. It is active against a wide range of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria isolated from domestic animals.

2. Pharmacokinetic and Lung-Targeting Kinetics

  • Rapid Systemic Absorption: Absorbed quickly following subcutaneous or intramuscular administration, achieving therapeutic serum concentrations rapidly.

  • Extensive Tissue Distribution: Rapidly penetrates body tissues, concentrating heavily within the respiratory tract, lung homogenate, and bronchial lining fluid to match or exceed plasma levels.

Primary Clinical Indications

Norfenicol Injection is indicated across beef and non-lactating dairy cattle operations for the treatment and control of major bacterial disease complexes:

  • Bovine Respiratory Disease ($\text{BRD}$): Treatment of $\text{BRD}$ associated with Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, and Histophilus somni. Control of $\text{BRD}$ associated with these pathogens in cattle at high risk of developing $\text{BRD}$.

  • Bovine Interdigital Necrobacillosis (Foot Rot): Treatment of foot rot caused by Fusobacterium necrophorum and Bacteroides melaninogenicus.

  • Infectious Bovine Keratoconjunctivitis ($\text{IBK}$): Treatment of pinkeye associated with Moraxella bovis.

Recommended Administration and Dosing Protocols

To guarantee absolute safety, proper bioavailability, and tissue compatibility, Norfenicol Injection must be administered strictly according to approved route and weight-based guidelines.

1.Inspect Vial & Disinfect Septum:Aseptic Preparation.

Examine the multi-dose glass vial to ensure seal integrity. Clean the rubber septum with an antiseptic alcohol swab before inserting a sterile aspirating needle or multi-dose syringe device.

2.Determine Approved Administration Route:Route Selection.

Administer via subcutaneous ($\text{SC}$) injection at $20\ \text{mg/kg}$ ($2\ \text{mL}$ per $150\ \text{lbs}$) repeated in 48 hours, or as a single subcutaneous injection at $40\ \text{mg/kg}$ ($2\ \text{mL}$ per $75\ \text{lbs}$). Alternatively, administer via intramuscular ($\text{IM}$) injection at $20\ \text{mg/kg}$ repeated in 48 hours.

3.Calculate Precise Weight-Based Dose:Dosage Calculation.

Apply precise weight-based dosing matching the chosen therapeutic protocol to ensure optimal active ingredient concentration in target tissues.

4.Observe Maximum Injection Volumes:Site Volume Limits.

To prevent excessive local tissue irritation and trim loss, do not inject more than $10\ \text{mL}$ per injection site. Divide larger doses across multiple sites.

Clinical Safety, Precautions, and Storage

  • Withdrawal Periods: Observe mandatory pre-slaughter withdrawal intervals (typically 28 days following subcutaneous administration and 38 days following intramuscular administration) prior to marketing meat for human consumption.

  • Dairy Cattle Restrictions: Do not use in female dairy cattle 20 months of age or older, as use in these animals may cause drug residues in milk. Not for use in calves intended to be processed for veal.

  • Breeding Animals Contraindication: Do not use in bulls intended for breeding purposes, as reproductive toxicities and potential impacts on testicular tissues have been associated with phenicol compounds.

  • Storage Parameters: Store unopened glass vials at controlled room temperatures between 15°C and 30°C (59°F to 86°F). Protect from direct sunlight and freezing.
